He is a cunning individual with a disarming manner, but beneath the surface lurks an insane killer who believes himself the living incarnation of the derro god Diinkarazan. He rationalizes every action, including his capture, as part of his "divine plan" to perform bloody sacrifices that will create a path of carnage leading to glory for his people.

Personality

He speaks in urbane Elvish and carries himself with regal dignity, but this illusion belies the savage instincts lurking beneath. Under stress or threat, he can erupt into uncontrollable violence, tearing foes apart with claws and teeth. His mind is a battleground between his noble delusions and the brutal quaggoth nature slowly consuming him. This conflict causes him great anguish and desperation as he fights to maintain his identity.

Though he maintains his delusion, his savage instincts can take over violently, making him dangerous and unpredictable.

He is obsessed with gambling and betting on everything — from the party’s ability to sneak past a guard unnoticed to the outcome of random events. His ceaseless wagering often annoys others, but Jimjar is always true to his word, meticulously keeping track of debts and paying them promptly.

While his behavior can be grating, he is generally good-natured and tries to get along with everyone. However, other svirfneblin prisoners like Topsy and Turvy sometimes find him unstable or even mad. Jimjar suspects something odd about the wererat twins but keeps it mostly to himself.

Despite his guilt, he is mean-spirited, hateful, and quick to bully others, especially prisoners like Eldeth Feldrun whom he resents bitterly. However, Ront is pragmatic enough to knuckle under to authority and threats, preferring to survive rather than die in captivity.

His spiteful nature and bullying tendencies make him a disruptive presence among the prisoners.

Story Plot Hooks

Combat Style
Fights using brute strength and intimidation, relying on sheer force rather than strategy.
Story End Destination
The surface world, hoping for redemption or survival beyond captivity.
Usefulness Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) – Physically capable but disruptive and unreliable in group dynamics.

Sarith Kzekarit

Personality

Sarith is a sullen, withdrawn male drow prisoner accused of murdering a fellow drow warrior during a fit of madness he cannot recall. He is resigned to his fate but tormented by uncertainty—sometimes believing his imprisonment is a setup, other times fearing the truth of his guilt.

Unknown to others, Sarith is infected with corrupted myconid spores linked to Zuggtmoy, the Demon Queen of Fungi, which slowly erode his sanity and health. This internal battle causes erratic mood swings and occasional violent outbursts.

Story Plot Hooks
  • Haunted by his crime and the spores that threaten his mind.
  • Key to uncovering the fungal corruption affecting the Underdark.
  • Potentially volatile ally or dangerous liability as the spores progress.

Combat Style
Skilled drow warrior, though his effectiveness is impaired by bouts of madness and physical decline due to the fungal infection.
Story End Destination
Neverlight Grove, where his fate will likely be entwined with the influence of Zuggtmoy’s spores.
Usefulness Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) – Valuable source of information but mentally unstable and risky.

Unlike most kuo-toa, Shuushar exudes an aura of enlightened balance and is accepting of his imprisonment, viewing it as simply part of the journey life offers.

His pacifist nature means he refuses to fight or harm any creature, including his captors or allies. Despite this, Shuushar is wise and can provide valuable knowledge about the Underdark and kuo-toa settlements.

Usefulness Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) – Valuable guide and source of knowledge but no combat utility.
Stool, Myconid Sprout

Stool

Personality

Stool is a young myconid sprout who was captured by Sarith Kzekarit. Unlike most prisoners, Stool is lonely, frightened, and extremely eager to return home to its colony in Neverlight Grove. It has a childlike curiosity and a friendly nature, often acting like an enthusiastic younger sibling to the adventurers it bonds with.

Stool communicates telepathically through spores and is willing to guide and assist the party, offering sanctuary with its fellow myconids despite being unaware of the dangerous influence of Zuggtmoy over the colony.

Story Plot Hooks
  • Offers telepathic communication to bridge language barriers.
  • Promises safe refuge in Neverlight Grove.
  • May unknowingly lead the party into fungal corruption risks.

Story End Destination
Neverlight Grove, though the adventurers should be wary of the myconid colony’s corruption under Zuggtmoy’s influence.
Usefulness Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5) – Excellent for communication and guidance, but fragile and unaware of some dangers.
Topsy and Turvy, Wererat Twins

Topsy & Turvy

Personality

Topsy and Turvy are deep gnome (svirfneblin) twins who hide a dark secret—they are infected with the curse of lycanthropy, specifically wererat. Topsy is the more social and talkative of the pair, while Turvy is brooding, mumbling darkly, and more withdrawn.

They struggle to keep their curse hidden from other prisoners and from themselves, fearing what allies might do if they discovered the truth. Their condition causes tension and fear between them, and the impending full moon adds urgency and danger to their predicament.

Story Plot Hooks
  • Their lycanthropy is a ticking time bomb tied to the lunar cycle, threatening their stability.
  • They seek secrecy and safety but also support and understanding.
  • Can be wild cards in the party’s escape and survival due to their transformations.

The twins are reluctant to return to Blingdenstone due to fear of persecution and exposure and prefer alternate routes to avoid pursuers.
How to Escape Recommendations
They need trust, protection, and assurance that their secret is safe to help control their lycanthropy and maintain cooperation.
Description
Topsy is a small deep gnome with a mop of stringy hair and a lively expression, while Turvy is nearly bald, with just a few tufts, and often mutters or broods. They appear as typical svirfneblin but carry an underlying tension due to their curse.
Combat Style
The twins are agile and sneaky when untransformed, but when the full moon triggers their wererat forms, they become dangerous, fast, and unpredictable combatants.
Story End Destination
Likely to separate eventually, pursuing individual fates that are shaped by their curse and choices.
Usefulness Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) – Valuable for stealth and intrigue, but unstable and potentially dangerous.
