Shardkin are living beings of crystal and stone, their faceted bodies glowing faintly with arcane light. Rare and solitary, they often dwell in mountains, caverns, or ruins where old magic lingers. Though reserved, they are steady companions who endure hardship without complaint.

Children of Cataclysm
Born in the aftermath of magical disasters, shardkin see themselves as survivors of chaos. Many dedicate their lives to keeping such destruction from rising again, while others wander in search of meaning beyond their origins.

Minds Like Crystal
Their crystalline nature grants them clarity and resilience. Fear and manipulation slide off them, and in battle they face danger with calm focus. This detachment can seem distant, but it stems from a steady confidence in their own strength.

The Crystal’s Gift
Shardkin stand as natural bulwarks. Their hardened shells deflect blows, their psionic resonance shields allies, and their arcane essence flares with protective wards. They are tanks not through brute force, but through clarity of mind and unyielding resilience.

Crystal Carapace

Your body is protected by a lattice of living crystal. While you are not wearing armor, your base AC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier. You can still use a shield with this trait.

Psionic Ward

Your mind radiates protective resonance. As a reaction when you or a creature you can see within 10 feet of you takes damage, you can reduce that damage by 1d4 + your Intelligence modifier.

The damage reduction increases by 1d4 when you reach levels 5 (2d4), 11 (3d4), and 17 (4d4).

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Shardborn Instincts

Your crystalline psyche resists intrusion. You are immune to the charmed and frightened conditions.

In addition, you have advantage on saving throws against being stunned or paralyzed.

Arcane Conduit

You channel magic through your crystalline body. You know the Blade Ward cantrip. You also always have the Shield spell prepared.

You can cast it without a spell slot a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest. You can also use any spell slots you have to cast the spell.
