Shardkin
In ancient times, the Shardkin carved out hidden sanctuaries amid crumbling ruins, deep caverns, and high mountain peaks where the raw magic of creation still lingers. Their dwellings—often built into the very bedrock or nestled in forgotten temples, reflect a harmonious blend of natural beauty and mystical artistry. Over the centuries, these secluded communities have preserved esoteric lore and rituals that honor the forces which once shattered the world, making the Shardkin both custodians and survivors of an age-old magic.
The Shardkin are known for their introspective and measured demeanor. They tend to be reclusive, preferring the solitude of ancient ruins or the quiet majesty of mountain vistas, yet when they do interact with others they are deliberate, thoughtful, and surprisingly empathetic. While they might come off as aloof, Shardkin harbor a deep commitment to preserving lost wisdom and the delicate balance of magic. Their personality is as multifaceted as the crystal surfaces that define them, a blend of somber resolve, ancient insight, and an unyielding desire to restore harmony to a world still scarred by past cataclysms.
Crystalline Resilience
Your crystalline form grants you resistance to force damage.
When you are hit by an attack, you can use your reaction to reflect a portion of the damage back at the attacker. The attacker must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier); on a failure, it takes damage equal to 1d6 + your proficiency bonus.
This feature increases when you reach 5th level (2d6), 11th level (3d6), and 17th level (4d6).
Radiant Recovery
When you take a short rest, you recover an additional hit point equal to your proficiency bonus for each hit die spent.
Ethereal Bond
Your unique form gives you a detached clarity of mind. You have Immunity against being charmed or frightened, as your crystalline nature renders you impervious to subtle manipulations of the mind.
Instead you take damage equal to your proficiency bonus each time you fail one of these saving throws as pieces of shard detach from you and fall to the ground losing their magic.
Arcane Conduit
You have a natural connection to raw magical energy that courses through your form. You learn one cantrip of your choice from the Arcane spell list, using Intelligence as your spellcasting ability for that cantrip.
In addition, you can cast this cantrip without verbal or somatic components, and if the cantrip deals damage, you add your Intelligence modifier to the damage roll.
